The vibrations and air "glugging" from falling water can damage conveyance systems. Water falling >5m generally needs to be controlled with some type of drop structure. 

Conventional solutions like cascades can be large footprint and hydraulically unstable. The Hydro-Brake Drop Shaft is designed to dissipate the energy in the falling flow stream through high contact between the flow and the drop pipe. This keeps the drop pipe and its upstream and downstream distilling basin footprints small.
