The DVS screen is installed into the channel with the bar screen at the bottom and the cable rake mechanism at rest in the header box above the operating floor. When septage screenings collect on the bar screen in the channel, the open rake is lowered (either manually or automatically based on water level) from the header box down into the channel. When the rake reaches the material trapped on the bar screen, it closes and traps the screenings between the rake and the screen. The rake then raises, bringin the screenings with it back to the surface. the screenings are then discharged into a surface-level screenings bin by an ejector blade in the header box.
