Coarse bar screens screen out gross debris from the deep channel. The bar screen sits at the bottom fo the channel. Man-access to the channel is not required. The bar screen is attched by rails to a discharge segment that sits at the top of the channel. 

A special Grab shovel with raked teeth "grabs"onto screenings collected against the bar screen and brings it up to the discharge point. There is a pivoting scraper above the discharge element to dislodge the screenings from the raked grab. 

The grab is operated manually and raises and lowers on a stainless steel cable.
